Advancing Girls and Women
We envision a gender equal world. Unfortunately, many women around the world still lack access to education, healthcare, capital and opportunities. First and foremost, we must empower them with safety. Safety should not be considered a luxury for women - it is a fundamental human right.
Educate a girl, and you not only change the trajectory of her life, but of her family and community.
The Anu & Naveen Jain Women's Safety XPRIZE is a $1 million global competition that challenges teams to leverage technology to empower communities with a transformative solution that ensures women's safety. Armed with innovative safety nets, communities everywhere can rapidly respond to threats against any of its members, ensuring that help is always available when needed.
The winning team's solution will autonomously and inconspicuously trigger an emergency alert while transmitting information to a network of community responders, all within 90 seconds. The winning technology will cost no more than US $40, to help ensure it is affordable.
We need to make the world safer for women. Safety is a fundamental human right and should not be considered a luxury for women. Yet, one in three women globally have faced sexual violence, and at least one in five women are assaulted on college campuses in the United States alone. Many nations do not have a universal emergency access number (like 9-1-1 in the United States) that victims can call to report a crime. Despite the universal need for women's safety, basic emergency reporting and response networks, do not exist in much of the world.

Girls are powerful. When they're educated, healthy, and safe, they transform their communities. When girls stand up for girls in need, they empower each other and transform our world. Girl Up engages girls to take action.
Creating a first ever gender-based violence curriculum, aimed to educate and spread awareness about GBV in communities around the world. We hope this curriculum continues to educate and empower new and old Girl Up Club members as they work to reduce gender-based violence in their communities around the world.

Only 1.6% of all philanthropic funds go to organizations focused on women and girls. And less than 0.5% of foundation funds go to women and girls of color. It’s hard to fight for equal rights without equal support. With equal funding, we can ensure equal rights, equal pay and equal power.
By closing the funding gap, we can take action to address the systemic and cultural barriers to equality that continue to affect the lives of millions of women globally. Together, we can do more. We must use the power of our voices and influence to help us get to a more gender-equal world.
